MICROSCOPE PHOTOGRAPHY ︳SEM(e)

SEM(e)

The title is a wordplay containing the technology I used to photograph seeds - SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) - and seme which means seed.

SEM(e) is a photography project combining science and art and wondering where the line lies between such seemingly different fields of work.  Special thanks goes to University Botanic Gardens Ljubljana which kindly donated seeds from Slovenian endemic plants (endemic - of a plant or animal, native and restricted to a certain place). The original photographs are black and white so I had to paint them in post-production. I picked the colors based on how the flowers of the plant look. Colorization was a long and very new process to me, I acquired a lot of Photoshop skills during this project, especially working with masks. I was observing textures, shadows and higlights and took those characteristics into account when painting to get the most realistic look possible.

Seeds go as listed:
  1. Konjiška perunika
  2. Rebrinčevolistna hladinkija
  3. Kranjski jeglič
